Reporting into the Director, Financial Reporting, the Property Accountant is responsible for providing financial management to a portfolio of commercial real estate properties.
As a member of the Property Accounting team you will be responsible for preparing monthly/quarterly financial statements, and management reports and working papers in support of quarterly and annual regulatory filings and annual audits. The Property Accountant will assist in preparing operating and fiscal budgets, reviewing accounting records to ensure the accuracy of reported financial results and resolve account discrepancies, maintaining ledgers, and preparing and posting journal entries.
You will work collaboratively with all key stakeholder groups, including management, to understand business objectives and align with financial and operational strategy. The successful candidate will coordinate monthly property management meetings, provide accounting advice to the Operations Team as required, and assist in the preparation of annual tenant recoveries.
The profile we are looking for
Our ideal candidate would have two to five years of related experience in a professional environment with a post-secondary degree in Accounting; however, recent graduates are encouraged to apply. CPA, CMA or CA designation (completed or in progress) is considered an asset. Candidates should possess exceptional analytical, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage a complex workload and prioritize appropriately, with experience in Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience with real estate accounting software (CTI or Yardi) would be considered an asset.
Professionalism and superior communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. The successful candidate must be a self-starter who is able to develop and build relationships internally and externally, as well as the ability to maintain confidential information.
